ARTIST STATEMENT
I grew up in Richmond Virginia, in the south, raised around the arts and the rich history of story telling that abounds
in the region. My work is about allegory, symbols of my past and the hopes for the future. I believe in the power of the
icon, and my work strives to be icons and beacons along the path of the tale of my own discovery. I believe that great art
tells a great story and that the artist and his or her work is linked together in such a way that the viewer will actively
be able to spin there own tale from the act of creation. Many of my themes revolve around my dyslexia and my boyhood school
struggles, I also focus on traveling and borders. The borders that are easily accessible in our country have allowed me to
travel and learn the customs that do exist from state to state. I believe we live in a place of boxes, I realized that we
move from one box to another, traveling only in the spaces provided, guided by the never ending lines that we have created
for ourselves, avoiding touch at any cost with strangers, yet lusting for it all the while. We are bombarded by images devoid
of meaning and substance, so I try to keep moving and create the stories to tell that will be remembered.
